ALTER DO CHÃO: PALÁCIO DO ÁLAMO GARDEN BUILT IN THE 17th CENTURY.
The Álamo Garden has picnic area, a children’s playground, an open air exhibition area, an amphitheatre and a field for traditional games. Here and there you may find a pergola, a viewpoint or a waterwheel. The vegetation has a great diversity. This garden is situated near the Álamo Palace, built in the 17th century, probably in 1649, by the family Mendes de Vasconcelos, and with important renovations in the 18th century. As it was customary in that baroque period, the owners favoured the natural environments and the luscious gardens. There are two floors with rectangular layout. Near the palace, you can find several farmhouses, lakes, water tanks and irrigation systems typical of this region. The palace is owned by the municipality and inside you may find the Tourism Bureau, an art gallery and a library. The gardens are ideal for relaxing and snacking, if you brought your Alter do Chão Genial Picnic.
